The Tracks
The railroad tracks were really cool. We never ventured there
until we were older, and even then it could be a little scary
sometimes. I guess caution was a good thing to have
anyways. Walking on the tracks wasn't all to bright, but we did
it anyways many times. It was fun to stand in our fort along the
tracks and watch the trains go rushing past. I'll never forget
one time when it was snowing really hard, we were up there playing and
the tracks were completely covered with snow. We looked towards
DH Griffin and all we could see were two flashing lights through the
falling snow. Then, in a few seconds, the train came rushing
through blowing snow everywhere. There was a switch in the tracks
nearby also, so some evenings around 7 o'clock, the Amtrak train would
stop and wait for another train to go by before the switch changed
over. Other trains would also stop periodically, so we got
close-up looks at all different types of train cars over the
years. Rumor has it that others who have come behind us have
caused a lot of trouble for the businesses across the tracks, which is
sad because I am sure that has made it hard to go there now. This
page has pictures of the RR tracks, the creek, and some of the other
woods near the Creekwood portion of the neighborhood.
